I saw a hat like this in a magazine and that was my initial inspiration for this painting. I didn't know who would be wearing the hat, but she (Mae) eventually emerged. I love the slant and color of her eyes, her full lips, her strong neck and shoulders, the colors of the background and, of course, her hat. I am quite happy with her.
